A charming and lucky sensory bin experience

I’m back with another festive addition to our “celebrating St. Paddy’s with littles” series. This one is such a crowd pleaser – with simple ingredients, a few tools and a free printable, this sensory bin is both festive and educational!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Sensory bin or box

  • A box of lucky charms or other cereal of your choice

  • This free printable

  • Scissors

  • Small scoops, cups, tongs etc.

You can learn all about the fundamentals of building your sensory bin in one of my older posts here, but as is the case with most sensory play, this is truly a chose your own adventure project. Firstly, grab your sensory bin, and make sure it is clean and dry. Secondly, pick your filling – I chose a festive and taste safe cereal (lucky charms) – if you aren’t comfortable with a cereal like that due to sugar, food dye, allergies etc. you can use any other cereal to keep it taste safe or you can move to a non-edible filler like painted beans or dyed rice. Once you’ve created your base, you’ll want to print out this free printable that has festive pots of gold and rainbows for you to cut out and hide in your bin along with small instruction cards that you and your kiddo can read together to determine a task they should complete in their bin – for example: “find 5 rainbows and 2 pots of gold” – these are great for helping a kid practice following multi step directions, rote counting, number recognition etc. I found some cute and festive scoops and bins at the dollar tree, paired those with some kid sized tools and my printable for an activity that turned out to be fun, educational and a little bit tasty.
